Screening for Microbial Metal-Chelating Siderophores for the Removal of Metal Ions from Solutions

To guarantee the supply of critical elements in future, development new technologies is essential. Siderophores have high potential recovery and recycling valuable metals due to their metal-chelating properties. Using Chrome azurol S assay, 75 bacterial strains were screened obtain a high-yield siderophore with ability complex metal ions. The production four selected Nocardioides simplex 3E, Pseudomonas chlororaphis DSM 50083, Variovorax paradoxus EPS, Rhodococcus erythropolis B7g was optimized, resulting significantly increased N. R. erythropolis. Produced amounts velocities highly dependent on carbon source. genomes P. sequenced. Bioinformatical analyses revealed occurrence an achromobactin pyoverdine gene cluster chlororaphis, heterobactin requichelin erythropolis, desferrioxamine simplex. Finally, results previous metal-binding screening validated by proof-of-concept for ions from aqueous solutions utilizing C18 columns functionalized siderophores.
